It all started with these Tenets…
Company
We do things to better life for our Stakeholders. Our Stakeholders are defined loosely as contributors, partners, customers, users, our community and even a homeless person who might live in our community.
We do not have employees, each of us are “contributors”. Honey is only as strong as the team that it is built by.
Honey and its contributors have a symbiotic relationship. Honey will take care of each contributor and each contributor will take care of Honey.
Transparency and truth are highly valued. Never fear fighting for the truth and don’t lie.
People are humans and we make mistakes, acknowledge mistakes and learn from them.
We value common sense and opinions. The person who sweeps the room may have a better idea than the CEO, so hear them out, but don’t let anyone deter you from achieving something great.
Make an informed opinion or criticism by using data and facts to recommend change. In other words, come to the table with a better solution.
We value challenges and rules, balance these principles.
We DON’T discriminate! No one person is more valuable than another to Honey. We are all equal and will be treated as equals. Harassment will not be tolerated. If you see it report it, it’s your duty to report bad behavior.
Be passionate about what you do, if you are not - change it.
Product
All products must work with both Android and iOS.
Products solve problems, not enable new features
All products must follow the 8/80 methodology (whether someone is 8 or 80 they should be able to operate it) and KISS (Keep It Simple Silly) rule.
All transactions must protect PII, unless a user personally makes a conscious decision not to protect their PII.
Users must be able to send money to non-app holders.
We value financial inclusion, endeavor to accommodate the less fortunate and will make our products accessible to all people
All new features must get input from all groups before deciding on feature implementation. This is to ensure we are solving a real problem and to explore if that feature can be used to solve other problems.
Transparency above all, no BS’ing Honey Stakeholders.
All products must be consumable by APIs.
Test internally, test externally, test often, test often, test often.
Technology
We are building for the present and the future, always use scalable technology, no matter the cost or situation.
When working a problem, understand first what the functionality could do broadly beyond the problem you are solving.
Hire for commonsense, not for fancy credentials.
Speak up, there is always a better way to do something.
Architect and write greatness.
Take pride and organize your code.
Close and kill all backdoors.
Compliance
We do NOT break laws. It is your responsibility to know the law.
Speak up if you see something wrong.
Compliance has the right to look into anything anywhere in the company, except for personnel or performance coach files; use this right judiciously and in a very transparent way.
Compliance is there to make sure everyone is following applicable laws, not to prohibit Honey from conducting business.
Be creative to solve a problem, but don’t break laws in the process.
Compliance will report to the CEO and the Board of Directors of the organization.
Coaching
The company will deploy coaches for contributors.
Coaches are there to help contributors reach their fullest potential in all areas of their lives (professional and private).
All information disclosed to coaches is private information and belongs to that individual - period!
Every coach will be held to a professional standard code that will be posted for all to see.
Working with a coach is voluntary.
