Let’s get right to the heart of it. How does something free make money?

As we have mentioned various times in this document, we believe payments provide little value compared to data. Data helps businesses and people make decisions. Good data helps people and businesses make the right decisions for them. We are about transparency, but very much about protecting people’s data. Contrary to what some say, it’s not a fine balance. It’s about letting users make the decision on what data they wish to share.

We should remind our reader, that we will not sell people’s personal identifiable information - EVER! We maintain all data and no entity or person ever has direct access to a user’s personal data - period.

So, let’s dive right in to understand how Honey will make money!

Deploy a Freemium Model: Our freemium model will give merchants several hundred free transactions per month. The number will meet most merchant’s needs, but it lacks additional benefits that our research shows merchants want. We believe the benefits are dear enough that most merchants will upgrade to one of the subscription models below.

Subscription Fees:
Bronze: $25.00 a month, the merchant gets: unlimited payments, consumer engagement platform access, accounting integration, data retention and reporting.

Silver: $50.00 a month, the merchant gets: Everything in Bronze + the ability to link several accounts to a master account (so more than one person can take payments) and some additional customization

Gold: $100.00 a month, the merchant gets: Everything in Silver + instant settlements and access to the Business Intelligence (BI) platform.

User Engagement: This is based on a subscription fee. For x amount, we enable the merchant to send x number of messages per month. For example: $50.00 will get a merchant two messages per month.

Business Intelligence Platform: A simple monthly fee will apply here this as well.

API Licensing: We will license our APIs to companies for an annual fee to process unlimited transactions using the Honey network. We estimate companies will save more than 80% of their transaction fees.

Platform Licensing: Much like Force.com, Honey will enable other apps to use Honey to provide services for our users. For example, perhaps a company will build an interface into Honey to provide micro-loans to users.

Business Intelligence Platform Licensing: We will license pure aggregate data to hedge fund companies etc. At no time ever will we give specific user data to anyone. These companies will have general access to the platform to get overall system / network aggregate data of what’s being bought, where etc.

Bill Pay: We will enable the unbanked and underbanked to pay their bills directly from the Honey app. Today, they must go to the store or get a money order to pay their bills. We will charge the businesses a convenience fee for this service.
